Even though only tiny at 1 inch x 2 inches x 3 1/4 inches and weighing only 3.2 ounces (90 grams) the Sony HDR-AS10 Action Video Camera can still record at resolutions up to 1920 x 1080p full HD resolution at 30 frames per second (fps). There are also a 2x and 4x Slow Motion Modes at 1280 x 720p resolution at 60 fps and 120 fps respectively. At 120 fps the 4x mode is perfect for frame by frame reviews of any moves, tricks or stunts for style and technique. The rugged, external housing provided with the Sony HDR-AS10 has an integrated tripod mount, is dirt and dust resistant and waterproof to 197 feet (60m), making it virtually invulnerable to rain, snow, mud sand and grime. Two adhesive mounts are also included that will firmly attach to most flat or curved surfaces.
Ruggedness in action cams is common but no other mountable POV camera can boast Carl Zeiss optics. The Vario-Tessar lens has an ultra-wide 170-degree viewing angle giving you more perspective and taking in more of the terrain and surroundings, not just you. The back-lit Exmor R CMOS sensor specifically designed for compact devices has the photo diodes above the circuitry, maximizing the light gathering ability of every pixel, which means improved clarity and significantly reduced graininess, in other words superb low-light performance from the Sony HDR-AS10. Sony's SteadyShot smooths out the inevitable shakes inherent in typical action shooting, using innovative 3-way shake-canceling to reduce blur. A BIONZ processor and automatic focus adjustment chime in to produce stunning results in a wide range of conditions. To activate the Press-n-Go recording function, the large Start/Stop button at the rear of the Sony HDR-AS10 Action Video Camera makes it easy to operate even if you are wearing gloves. There is a built-in stereo microphone to record high quality audio while a micro-HDMI output (cable required) means you can display direct to a HDTV in full HD. The memory card slot on the Sony HDR-AS10 is compatible with Memory Stick Micro and microSD/SDHC memory cards (not included). Record directly onto a memory card, then remove and insert into your computer for editing and sharing movies on the Internet using Sony's PlayMemories software (included) to organize, edit and share your photos and videos.
By the way, the Sony HDR-AS15 Action Video Camera is basically the same as the HDRAS10 except it also provides Wi-Fi capability. Why would you want this? Use Sony's free PlayMemories Mobile app on a suitable smartphone or tablet to pull movies and photos from the camera wirelessly and then email or upload to a social media site. Quickly and easily share those epic moments. You can also use a smartphone or tablet to frame shots.
